ITCP Training by PSSCIVE at SCERT
Training Programme for Vocational Teachers on Installation Technician Computing and Peripherals (PAC Code 14.35) From October 3 to 7 at SCERT
Kerala The Training Programme for Vocational Teachers on the Job Role “Installation Technician Computing and Peripherals (ELE/Q4609)” started at SCERT, Thiruvananthapuram on 3rd October, 2018.
The objectives of the training programme were:
i. To comprehend the emerging trends and recent developments in the field of IT
ii. To develop competencies for deliver of content-cum-skill-training for the job role on Installation Technician Computing and Peripherals.
Forty-One (41) Vocational Trainers from the states of Andhra Pradesh (10) and Kerala (31) attended the programme. On the first day, the programme was inaugurated by Prof. J. Prasad, Director, SCERT, Kerala, and the Programme Coordinator. Director, SCERT welcomed all the participants from Andhra Pradesh and Kerala to SCERT. He gave stress on acquiring skills in computer installation through this training programme. He also informed that two days practical training is organized at Government College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. He declared that the training programme is formally and informally inaugurated. After the inaugural session, the coordinator Dr. Dipak D. Shudhalwar introduce the participants about the institute. On enquiring, it was learned that most of the participants were aware of the PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education. So the participants were apprised with the roles and function of PSSCIVE.
The coordinator discussed the curriculum at length and obtained the feedback from the participants regarding the implementation of the course contents. The participants asked their doughts regarding the availability of textbook, equipment for practical hands-on and examination pattern for the vocational subject as the NSQF courses are introduced in Kerala from this academic year. The local coordinator Mr. Renjith Subhash, has responded these queries and said that these matters will be resolved in the academic meeting of SCERT. The curriculum was mostly accepted by the Vocational Trainers (VTs). The coordinator also explained the practical aspects are more important in this type of subject and more stress may be given to Practical. He suggested organizing the field visits as per the provision of NSQF. In each field visit, the practical demonstration of one unit contents can be covered. In the second day as per the schedule, the overview of operating systems was covered by the coordinator. Then the installation of the operating system was demonstrated to the participants. The Ubuntu Linux 18.04 was taken up for installation of operating system. Local Resource Person was also invited for the demonstration of installation of the operating system.
Prof. Farook, Director, VHSE, Kerala also visited the training programme on the second day and addressed the participants. As he has come on deputation from the Government College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, he has arranged two days practical training at college on 5 and 6 October, 2018. Prof. Farook explained the participants the importance of job role based coursed under NSQF and that are being introuced in Kerala from this year. He informed that the vocational courses running in vocational higher secondary schools under VHSE at +2 level will also be continued in addition to these job roles under NSQF. On the pilot basis 66 schools has been selected to execute the NSQF job roles, which will be further extended to more schools.
In Kerala, there are 1000 VHSE courses running in 400 schools having the permanent regular vocational teachers. There is the staff of 3 persons per vocational course – one vocational teacher, one instructor and one Lab Assistant for each course. So in this way, there are 3000 persons working in vocational education. He assured that this experienced human resource can definitely achieve the success in NSQF job roles in the state. On the query raised by the participants about the examination pattern and equipment, he responded that everything will be sorted out in a phased manner as it is the first year of introduction of these courses. He informed that NSQF Cell will be established at SCERT, Kerala to sort out these matters. Most of the trainees were in the fear of Sector Skill Council (SSC) examination. But the authorities informed that no need to worry about the examination, as the knowledge and skills of teachers will be tested and they will acquire additional qualification as SSC Certified trainers. He informed about the graduation as followed by SSC. The authorities also enquired about the SSC certification passed by the VTs of Andhra Pradesh. The participants from Andhra Pradesh shared their experiences.
